Australia in command after bowling out Namibia for 72

Adam Zampa led Australia’s rout of an outclassed Namibian batting line-up with the southern Africans bundled out for just 72 off 17 overs batting first in their Group B match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Tuesday.

Put in to bat in breezy, drizzly conditions, Namibia were first strangled by the 2021 champions’ efficiency with their new ball bowlers and safe catching before Zampa took over, the leg-spinner ripping through the lower half of the line-up to finish with the outstanding figures of four for 12.

That fourth wicket came off the last ball of his four-over spell when he bowled Bernard Scholtz comprehensively for a duck to become the first Australian male to reach the milestone of 100 T20 International wickets.

Captain Gerhard Erasmus, who needed 17 deliveries to get off the mark, top scored with 36 off 43 balls (four fours, one six) before being ninth out, the second wicket for Marcus Stoinis, who shared the new ball with Josh Hazlewood, the senior seamer also picking up two wickets.

Having started the tournament with wins over Oman and England, victory for Australia here will confirm a spot in the Super Eights phase of the competition.
