Scotland's Kinghorn fires Toulouse to Vannes romp

Scotland full-back Blair Kinghorn scored a try as a second-string Toulouse side hammered Vannes 63-21 on Saturday to extend their lead at the summit of the French Top 14 table.

Kinghorn crossed after half an hour for the fourth of nine touchdowns for the hosts. Toulouse moved eight points clear of second-placed Toulon, who lost 27-20 at Lyon.

Promoted Vannes dropped back bottom of the table with their 12th loss in 17 games after fellow strugglers Stade Francais held on to beat La Rochelle 22-17 earlier in the day.

Champions Toulouse were without 10 players, including Antoine Dupont, being rested by France on a break weekend during the Six Nations.

Kinghorn, 28, did not benefit from time off for the league game sandwiched between Scotland's loss to England and hosting Wales in the fifth round of the annual tournament next Saturday.

English flanker Jack Willis continued to captain Toulouse and contributed two touchdowns, amid calls for him to be involved in this season's British and Irish Lions squad for their tour of Australia.

France lock Emmanuel Meafou was in the stands at Stade Ernest-Wallon after being named in France's 42-man squad to prepare for next Saturday's trip to Ireland.

Meafou has been sidelined since February 8's Six Nations loss to England with a lung infection.

Later Saturday, third-placed Bordeaux-Begles head to Perpignan with their all-France half-back partnership in Maxime Lucu and Matthieu Jalibert.

On Sunday, the in-form partnership of ex-England centre Manu Tuilagi and Fiji's Sireli Maqala start in midfield as Bayonne host Clermont.
